India’s Monsoon Arrives Early: Full Coverage Expected by July 2
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that the monsoon will cover the entire country by July 2, more than a week ahead of schedule. Early rains are expected to boost sowing of kharif crops like rice, corn, cotton, soybeans, and sugarcane—crucial for India’s largely rain-fed agricultural economy. So far, the monsoon has brought a 9% surplus in June rainfall, providing relief from earlier dry spells. Regions such as Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh can expect increased precipitation in the coming days. Farmers welcome the advance rains as a positive sign for crop yield and rural livelihoods.
